The UW Department of Physics and Astronomy offers a welcoming personalized educational experience that prepares students for challenging careers in space sciences, nanotechnology, quantitative finance, engineering, environmental sciences, optics, computer technology, energy policy, science law, and many other fields.

Our research efforts are broadly focused on condensed matter physics, materials science, and astronomy. Our physics faculty and students carry out interdisciplinary, collaborative, and hands-on research in multiple cutting-edge laboratories.
