The Samuel D. Hakes Memorial Endowment supports engineering and physical sciences students through hands-on and experiential educational programs, internships, innovation and cutting-edge research, and outreach projects with industry partners to create more economic opportunities in Wyoming and beyond.
Last year, the Samuel D. Hakes Memorial Fund supported multiple engineering and physical sciences students in the Wyoming Research Scholars Program, an interdisciplinary undergraduate research program that provides students with faculty mentorship, hands-on applied research experience, and funding to support research projects, travel, and related expenses.
Samuel D. Hakes dedicated his career to the UW College of Engineering and Physical Sciences—from pioneering undergraduate student to beloved instructor to trailblazing dean. Over the 48 years of Dr. Hakes's deep commitment, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences forged a path into the exciting world of computing at the University of Wyoming, where our faculty and graduates have become leaders in the field and he developed multiple patented electronic instruments used in health, sports, aerospace, and more.
