Engineering Starts Here
Mechanical engineering is more than learning equations. It is learning how to use them to design, build, test, discover, and improve.
UW Mechanical Engineering is expanding opportunities for students to practice real engineering throughout their undergraduate experience. Our new curriculum introduces hands-on design beginning in the sophomore year and places greater emphasis on manufacturing-helping students connect analysis and design with the realities of making things work.
Those opportunities extend well beyond the classroom. Students recently launched Cowboy Manufacturing, a new organization focused on developing practical manufacturing skills and turning ideas into hardware. Wyoming Motorsports (WyoMoto) continues to demonstrate what our students can accomplish, recently bringing home another national victory in the Formula Hybrid competition.
At the same time, more undergraduates are working alongside faculty on research in advanced manufacturing, materials, energy, fluid mechanics, and other emerging areas. They gain experience tackling open-ended problems where the answer is not known in advance-and, in some cases, contribute to publications and new technologies.
Our goal is simple: graduates who have done more than study engineering. We want them to have designed, built, tested, researched, competed, and created.
Your Giving Day support provides the materials, equipment, travel, research supplies, and project support that make these experiences possible.
Help us give the next generation of Wyoming engineers the opportunity to do engineering.
