About🤠

As America's military men and women leave service and begin transitioning to civilian life, many will enter academia to further their education and prepare for future employment and careers. The mission of the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation Veterans Services Center at UW, simply put, is to assist our military-connected students and their families through this transition.

This year we would like to honor the 13 years of service Director Marty C. Martinez provided to students during their transition from Warrior to Scholar. Under his leadership, the Veterans Services Center accomplished so much. It expanded from a small space to study and meet up to a 2,300-square-foot disability friendly facility; created opportunities to engage, influence, and promote strong academic skills, healthy physical and mental lifestyles; and developed personal connections through academic and social programming. When combined with his 29 years of military service, Marty dedicated over 42 years to ensuring that service members received the greatest support available. His guidance and direction lead to the center being recognized as a Top School by Veteran's Education and Transition Magazine, placing in the top 2% of 4-year colleges and universities in America sponsoring a veterans program.

In partnership with the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation, we have the opportunity to grow the Marty C. Martinez Excellence Fund. $25,000 has been set aside to match each gift of $10 or more, $25,000 will be released if we gain 10 or more donations of at least $100, $25,000 will be released when we hit 100 donors, and $50,000 will be released if we gain at least 150 donors.

The Veterans Services Center is fully funded by our partners’ donations. Your gift will support the full operations, programming, and activities for the UW military-connected community—such as Veterans Fly Fishing Program, Veterans academic programming, tutoring, over 130 health, wellness, and social activities and events, Veterans Food Insecurity Program, Mental Health initiatives, Students Supporting Veterans, Women Veterans Club, Dedicated Veteran Speaker Series, and much more.

As well as supporting the Marty C. Martinez Excellence Fund, you can increase the impact of the Hofer Family Scholarship for Military Families by making an additional gift directly to the scholarship fund supporting military spouses and children as they pursue their academic dreams (see the associated Giving Day campaign).

Your support is powerful, and together we are unstoppable. In theme with Seize the Day, we ask that you seize the opportunity to share this campaign with friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage them to Seize the Day and to support student veterans.

On behalf of the Veterans Services Center, thank you!
