Insect Gallery and Museum

The University of Wyoming Insect Gallery and Museum focuses on creating new educational public exhibits about insect diversity and biology. This makes the Insect Gallery display room more useful for teaching and modernizes the curation of the insect research specimen archival collections.

The UW Insect Gallery, located in Room 4018 of the Agriculture Building, is a public-viewing area for the UW Insect Museum. The public teaching displays of the Insect Gallery include hundreds of exotic specimens from all around the world—North America, Central America, South America, Africa, southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Australia—as well as displays of more well-known insects such as butterflies and moths of the Rocky Mountain West, including Wyoming and Colorado.

Entomology is one of the core science disciplines of the land-grant university system. Scientific studies of insects began at UW in Old Main in 1892 and have continued over the past 130 years. The UW Insect Museum continues its mission of preserving valuable scientific and historical specimens for present and future research and for public education. This project also contributes to the educational outreach goals of the Science Initiative.
