About

Greetings from the Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research!

The humanities are the laboratory of democracy where people learn about ethics, empathy, perspective, context, and critical, creative, and analytical thinking. They learn how the history of race, class, and gender have shaped our systems and institutions.

Please consider joining us by supporting our work—the world needs leadership, analytical skills, and informed thinking and decision-making processes, now more than ever because we face an uncertain social and economic future.

Our mission to promote teaching, research, and community engagement is always apparent but is especially keen now. There is a profound sense that the current civic and cultural conversations in the world are insufficient. In these times, humanities work—especially the training we provide to have quality civil conversations about difficult issues—has much to offer, and we feel that we have a duty to roll up our sleeves and get to work solving some of the problems we face.

The humanities institute supports internships for students, research support for faculty, and a broad range of community outreach. When the pandemic began, we retooled our programming to make it 100% virtual. Our Think & Drink series of conversations, for example, is up on our YouTube channel—please check it out! Over the past several months, we’ve had many conversations about topics citizens need to understand the world in which we live now.

The Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research can help prepare our students for the challenges they will face after graduation. Now more than ever, our communities need clear information about how study in the humanities can impact the future, create opportunities, and redefine how we meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Thank you for your support!
