UW’s Student Center for the Public Trust Chapter
Were you in an ethics club in college? Me neither—but that’s not the case for many UW students.
The mission for UW’s Student Center for the Public Trust Chapter—the Ethics Club—is to promote ethical thinking in the developing character and conscience of students. UW’s local chapter accomplished this in a number of ways, including its annual Spark Tank event.
In the fall of 2019, UW’s Ethics Club raised $45,000 through UW’s Giving Day initiative for Spark Tank. In the spring of 2020, chapter members evaluated nonprofit organizations in southeastern Wyoming to determine where to invest the resources. In the end, the money was distributed to four organizations: Downtown Clinic ($15,000), Laramie SAFE Project ($15,000), Feeding Laramie Valley ($10,000), and Big Brothers Big Sisters ($5,000).
Since 2018, the Ethics Club has distributed $67,500 to local nonprofits.
UW’s Spark Tank initiative has two primary purposes: 1) to provide the “spark” that helps local nonprofits fulfill their missions and 2) to “spark” a sense of community service within Wyoming’s next generation of business and community leaders.
