About

We are asking for your support of Campus Recreation. It would go toward supporting the development of Campus Recreation student employees, the Outdoor Program's bike library and popular outdoor canoe adventures, and Wellness Center wholistic programs for students.

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation promotes a holistic approach to a healthy campus through quality recreation, wellness, and student development through collegiate recreation. This mission drives all our programming: Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness, Intramural Sports, Open Recreation, Outdoor Program, and the Wellness Center. All our programs rely on student employees, making Campus Recreation one of the largest student employers at the University of Wyoming.

Your support would go to the Campus Recreation Student Development fund, which supports our Campus Recreation student employees. This fund provides opportunities to bring in speakers for our students, to support student certifications in their areas of expertise, and to support students attending regional and national conferences. This creates an environment that supports student growth and continued learning to better not only Campus Recreation but UW as a whole. Investing in the development of our student employees is critical to the continued growth of our students and the pursuit of being a leader within collegiate recreation.

Outdoor Program

One of our programs, the Outdoor Program, operates the indoor climbing wall, the rental resource center, leadership development courses, and seasonal outings, clinics, and programs. Our activities include recreation and skill-oriented clinics, guest speakers, presentations, local weekend outings, and extended outings to regional destinations.

This UW Giving Day, we are asking for support to fund the following projects:

  • The Pokes’ Spokes Bike Library – The Outdoor Program manages the Pokes’ Spokes Bike Library that allows students to rent a bike, helmet, and lock as a safe and cost-effective mode of transportation. Your support will help purchase new bikes and provide regular maintenance and repair for the existing fleet.
  • Canoes – One of our most popular trips is the overnight canoe trip down the North Platte River in Saratoga. Our fleet of canoes has provided 13 years of programming and hundreds of rentals. The boats are starting to wear, and it is time that we replace the fleet to keep our rental users and program participants safe. Donations will be applied to new canoes, lifejackets, and safety kits.

Wellness Center

The current pandemic has highlighted the critical role that health and wellness play in student success and campus wellbeing.

When students do not feel well—physically, psychologically, or socially—they have a have a harder time achieving their full academic potential. Indeed, data demonstrates a strong correlation between student wellness and student success, with the top academic impediments being stress, anxiety, depression, and physical illness. That's where the Wellness Center comes in.

The Wellness Center works to foster a culture of wellness and a healthy campus community through educational programs and services. Some of our more popular offerings include Puppy Play Dates, Kitty Cuddle Times, Free Fruit Friday, Smoothie Bike, full-body massage chairs, athletic training, and meditation and mindfulness trainings. Students are also able to get involved in the Wellness Ambassadors program and receive training in health education and leadership.

Please consider supporting the Wellness Center in our work to promote holistic well-being among UW students and campus. Your generous donation will go toward programs that support students through the Wellness Center.
