Kinesiology and Health

The UW MEDLIFE chapter is committed to helping make health care more accessible to communities that face barriers to essential medical care. Through mobile clinics, health screenings, education, preventative care, and community development projects, MEDLIFE works alongside communities rather than simply providing short-term assistance.

During service-learning trips, students have met families who have gone without health care because of cost, distance, or limited resources. These experiences have included providing health education, screenings, medications, and other essential services, including cervical cancer screenings that can identify serious health concerns before they become life-threatening.

Why It Matters

MEDLIFE's impact does not end when a clinic closes or a service-learning trip ends. The organization works with communities over time, following up and returning to provide continued care, education, and preventative health resources. This approach helps address not only immediate health needs but also the barriers that contribute to poor health in the first place. At UW, our chapter is working to bring this mission to life through local service projects, fundraising, health education, and opportunities for students to participate in MEDLIFE service-learning trips.
