Campus Connections is a therapeutic youth mentoring program that pairs University of Wyoming undergraduate students with local youth. Youth are referred to Campus Connections by ACSD#1, the Department of Family Services, the juvenile justice system, and other providers because they've seen what therapeutic mentoring can do.
Here's what a night at Campus Connections looks like.
- Each youth is paired one-on-one with a UW student mentor.
- Mentor-mentee pairs join a "mentor family" with youth of similar ages, building friendships and trust.
- Kids spend time on the UW campus, where higher education becomes something they can picture for themselves.
- Help with homework builds classroom confidence.
- A shared family-style meal with their mentor family.
- Fun healthy experiences that build skills and friendships.
- Access to evidence-based therapy throughout the night.
Developed in 2009 at Colorado State University in response to a community request for more help for struggling youth, Campus Connections is now also a high-impact service-learning course in the Psychology department at UW. Our college mentors gain real-world experience, and our youth gain a steady caring presence. Your donation to Campus Connections will help to keep us free for the youth and families we serve!
