Your gift puts a UW student in the field with a bird in hand. Every dollar raised this Giving Day funds paid undergraduate internships with WYOBIRD, so students can build hands-on ornithology skills without choosing between a paycheck and their passion. Competitive stipends mean students of all backgrounds can take flight.
Since our program began in 2023, WYOBIRD (the Wyoming Bird Initiative for Resilience and Diversity) has trained 40 undergraduates and 35 graduate students. Our Avian Interns band birds at our fall migration station in Laramie and monitor tree swallow nests. For many, it's their first time holding a wild bird and the start of a career in conservation.
Beyond training students, WYOBIRD shares science through outreach and tracks how our local birds are doing, banding more than 3,000 birds of 90 species so far.
Thank you for supporting the next generation of bird scientists! Learn more at wyobird.org.
