Mechanical Engineering

The UW Mechanical Engineering department has many opportunities for undergraduate student enrichment both inside and outside the classroom. These include senior design projects, student organizations that involve participation in national competitions, faculty-guided research in our exceptional laboratories, and much more.

Recent examples of these activities include the following.

• Two senior design project teams were selected to advance to Phase 2 of NASA’s 2024 Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (NExT).
• The Mechanical Engineering-supported group, WyoMoto, competed again in the Formula Hybrid-Electric Competition in New Hampshire.
• Undergraduate students participation in research with faculty, giving the students experiential learning with pressing engineering problems. One of our undergraduates is working with our newest NSF CAREER award winning faculty member Xiang Zhang to develop next-gen additive manufacturing technologies and will be coauthoring a journal paper with the research team.
