Biodiversity Institute

The UW Biodiversity Institute promotes conservation by supporting cutting-edge research and public engagement in science. But what does that really mean for Wyoming?

Thanks to your support, over the past 12 years we’ve hosted free family events, kid’s programs, and community science projects across Wyoming. In 2023 alone, over 3,000 people participated in our programs and projects:

• outreach events such as our free Summer Bat Walks—Wyoming’s only Bat Conservation International-certified program;
• community science projects where volunteers collect valuable data and immerse themselves in the scientific process, such as Moose Day, Mullen Fire Initiative, and Laramie Salamander Migration Initiative; and
• family-friendly events such as Wyoming BioBlitz, Salamander Saturday, Science Cafes, and more!

We’ve also proudly supported 67 graduate students with research grants and celebrated 4 years of the Wyoming Naturalist Program, with over 90 graduates!
