WWAMI is Wyoming's medical school! The University of Wyoming participates in the WWAMI Medical Education Program, which is affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) in Seattle, Washington. WWAMI is an acronym for the five states that participate in this program: Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.
Your support on Giving Day provides Wyoming WWAMI medical students educational experiences with advanced clinical technologies and medical research.
The medical school curriculum has been revised to include training on imaging modalities, such as point-of-care ultrasound. Students have the opportunity to get certified in point-of-care ultrasound, but this requires students to travel to clinics to get enough patient interaction hours at their own expense.
Students also travel in between their first and second years for clinical and research experiences and then have the opportunity to present their findings at professional research conferences.
This campaign will support students being adequately outfitted with the necessary technology and will fund their associated out-of-pocket student travel expenses. Our students will be well-prepared for their clinical clerkships, residency applications, and future practice in Wyoming upon completion of their medical education.
A presentation at a professional conference is roughly $1,000 inclusive of lodging, conference fees, and airfare. A week-long ultrasound training experience within Wyoming costs approximately $750.
Thank you for your support of WWAMI!
