About

Multicultural Affairs advocates with and for marginalized students to develop a positive sense of self, to create strong community connections, and to thrive in all aspects of student life. This mission is accomplished through community, leadership, and education.

In the spring of 2019, Multicultural Affairs identified a strong need among traditionally marginalized student populations, and that is community. In turn, Multicultural Affairs developed a weekly opportunity for students of color and LGBTQ students to connect with their peers over lived experience, identity, and perhaps their favorite sports team or restaurant in town. This is where the Students of Color and LGBTQ+ Circles were born.

Here are the funds under MA that you can support:

  • Dr. Dolores Cardona Scholarship: Dr. Dolores Saucedo Cardona received a PhD. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1985, Dr. Cardona was hired as the second director of the University of Wyoming, Minority Affairs Office and then the Associate Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs. Many of her responsibilities included administering the Multicultural Affairs Office, the Veteran's Center, nontraditional students, advisors to MEChA, and gender issues. Dr. Cardona played many key roles in obtaining funds for the Minority High School Student Research Apprentice Program (MHSSRAP) and establishing the William Randolph Hearst Minority Scholarship and the University of Wyoming Minority Scholarship. Dr. Dolores S. Cardona Scholarship currently enrolled minority students at UW.

Multicultural Affairs provides lunch and facilitates a space for students each week to connect and meet one another over the noon hour. We believe that the best cultural connections are facilitated over a full stomach alongside open hearts and minds. Our goal is to connect students to their peers and supportive staff to provide a positive learning experience and affirming space for anyone who attends our Circles.

Thank you for considering supporting Multicultural Affairs!
