Fencing requires endurance, agility, quick thinking, as well as sound strategy and competitive spirit. The UW Fencing Club is an epee and saber club. The epee is the heaviest weapon in fencing and incorporates a fairly large bell guard to shield the hand from hits, since the hand is a valid and popular target, while the saber is the only weapon that uses both the point and the edge. Saber fencing is very different from epee, particularly the blade work.
The UW Fencing Club frequently enters both teams and individuals in United States Fencing Association and collegiate tournaments. The club holds practice two times per week. We welcome everyone. No previous experience or equipment is required.
Thank you for considering supporting UW Fencing! Your support of this classic sport is much appreciated!
